Job Description:
McMurry University invites applications for a full-time,
non-tenure track, dual-appointment to serve as an Instructor for
the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and as the Teacher
Education Certification and Compliance (TECC) officer. This is an
11-month appointment.
McMurry University seeks applicants who understand the unique

Major/Essential Duties:
Primary responsibilities for the successful candidate will include
teaching undergraduate courses and ensuring compliance with all
Texas Education agency rules and statutes as approved by the State
Board of Educator Certification as those rules pertain to the
certification of McMurry candidates.
Instruction Responsibilities: Serve as an instructor for the -
Department of Curriculum & Instruction . This appointment includes
a regular teaching load of 12 contact hours per fall and spring
terms (with a 6-contact hour reassignment each term for -TECC
-duties). Instructional responsibilities span the academic year
(9-months). Teaching assignments may include day, late afternoon,
and/or night classes. Educational qualifications determine
instructional assignments and may include any combination of
course, seminar, and/or supervision of clinical/internship
experiences.
TECC -Officer -Responsibilities: -TECC -responsibilities extend 11
months and include all aspects of the compliance for both
undergraduates and alternative certification teacher candidates,
and is responsible for communicating changes to certification
requirements and assessments associated with those changes to all
stakeholders. The -TECC -officer is responsible for complying with
and managing McMurry's Teacher Educator Program in accordance with
the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) requirements that
prepare graduates for teaching certificates in Texas. The -TECC
-Officer regularly consults with University departments, units, and
committees regarding matters pertaining to the certification
process and assessments pertaining to teacher certification.
1. Compliance/Reporting
- Attends state and University meetings regarding teacher
certification requirement updates and acts as a resource for
teacher education certification programs across the University.
- Plans, establishes, implements and evaluates appropriate policies
and procedures to ensure McMurry's compliance with state and
accrediting agency(ies) requirements. Responsible for Texas
Administrative Code compliance and data integrity.
- Coordinates the collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment
data in order to demonstrate compliance with policies and
requirements of the University, alternative certification program
(ACP-FasTrack), individual education programs, the Texas Education
Agency, and accreditation bodies.
- Develop and submit state and federal reports correctly and in a
timely manner.
- Provide annual reports for Education Advisory Committee (EAC) and
individual departments with teacher preparation majors.
2. Data Management:
- Develop a workflow or database system that progress
undergraduates & -ACP -students through all phases of teacher
education application-to-completion through recommendation of the
initial certification process as required by state policies.
- Oversee the preparation of undergraduate and alternative
certification program (FasTrack) Teacher Education program
admission packets for Education Advisory Council's (EAC).
- Monitor teacher education applicants' information, verify
eligibility, recommend teacher candidates for certification.
- Complete certification documents, communicate certification
information to all clinical teacher candidates, and monitor
candidates required assessments for certification.
- Oversee the process of teacher certification candidates
transferring to other states including completing out-of-state
verification forms.
- Manage applications for probationary certification involving
communication with local school districts, Texas Education Agency,
and teacher candidates.
- Provide certification data to departments and support its use for
curricular alignment and for program assessment efforts.
3. University Collaboration:
- Collaborate directly with departments to ensure teacher
preparation curriculum meets certification requirements. Host
informational meetings to discuss certification results of students
in each department or certification area.
- Collaborate with the Academic Planning and Assessment Committee
(APAC) for data collection and program assessment.
- Provide certification information to programs and respond to
information request from faculty, staff, administration, and
teacher candidates regarding initial certification.
- Communicate changes to certification requirements and assessments
associated with those changes to all stake holders both at the
University and Departmental levels.
- Assist department faculty and students with questions and
compliance with Texas certification requirements and processes.
- Represent McMurry through memberships with state consortium
organizations (such as -CSOTTE, TxATE, and -TACO).
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education and/or a Master's degree in any
discipline with at least 18 credit hours of graduate work in a
teaching field.
Teaching certificate and teaching experience in a public &/or
private K-12 school setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education and/or a Master's degree in any
discipline with at least 18 credit hours of graduate work in -
English as Second Language -&/or - Reading .
- Prefer three or more years of teaching experience in higher
education or as a teacher or administrator in a K-12 school
setting.
- Prior experience as a certification officer, field experience
coordinator, or other role requiring knowledge of the educator
certification processes and policies required by the Texas
Education Agency and the State Board for Educator
Certification.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of best practice policies and procedures for teacher
preparation and alternative certification program requirements and
administrative functions; state of Texas procedures and standards
for teacher certification.
- Ability to work independently in order to organize and prioritize
workload.
- Ability to use a PC computer, and related software, specifically
Microsoft Office.
