Job Description:
Critical Care Intensivist (MD/DO) Position Summary The Critical
Care Intensivist provides comprehensive medical management of
critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. This role
involves the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of complex,
life-threatening conditions, coordination of multidisciplinary
care, and leadership of ICU clinical teams to ensure high-quality,
patient-centered outcomes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct care for critically ill patients in medical,
surgical, cardiac, or mixed intensive care units Evaluate and
manage acute respiratory failure, shock, sepsis, multi-organ
dysfunction, and other critical conditions Perform and supervise
critical care procedures, including airway management, mechanical
ventilation, vascular access, and hemodynamic monitoring,
consistent with training and privileges Lead daily
multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate care with consulting
services Interpret and integrate diagnostic data, including imaging
and laboratory results Communicate effectively with patients
families regarding clinical status, prognosis, and goals of care
Participate in rapid response and code teams, as required Provide
nighttime, weekend, and on-call coverage per service needs
Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice
providers, and nursing staff, as applicable Maintain accurate,
timely clinical documentation Participate in quality improvement,
patient safety, and ICU performance initiatives Comply with all
regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic
Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school Completion of an
accredited residency program (e.g., Internal Medicine,
Anesthesiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, or Pulmonary)
Completion of an accredited Critical Care Medicine fellowship
Board-eligible or board-certified in Critical Care Medicine Ability
to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure DEA
registration or eligibility ACLS certification Skills and
Competencies Expertise in critical care medicine and ICU procedures
Strong clinical judgment and rapid decision-making abilities
Ability to manage high-acuity, high-stress clinical environments
Excellent communication and leadership skills Commitment to
evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety
Work Environment Intensive care units within hospital settings
Shift-based scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays
depending on program structure Physical Requirements Ability to
stand and move throughout ICU environments for extended periods
Manual dexterity for bedside procedures Visual and auditory acuity
sufficient for patient monitoring and emergency response
